What To Expect
The Wolverine tactical adventure events are like a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle. And you are the piece that holds it all together. A lot is happening at this event, and you can help make it a success.
A couple of weeks before the event, we will place volunteers into the jobs they request, or as needed. When we publish the volunteer roster, we will also include as much information about your duties and tasks so you can familiarize yourself and ask questions before the event.
We typically begin setting out the land navigation field points on Wednesday or Thursday. On Thursday evening and all day Friday, we set up the individual live fire stages and non-live fire activities (FRAGOS).
We welcome all volunteers to help set up on Friday and also bring firearms to live-fire proof every stage. Not only is this a chance for volunteers to get some trigger time, but it also helps us refine our par times, scoring, and safety concerns.

Conduct of Volunteer Staff
Your primary mission is to ensure the safety of yourself, the staff, and competitors. We do this by staying vigilant for firearm safety violations. Many stages are physically demanding, require movement with loaded weapons, teamwork, and may be confusing for the competitors. It's everyone's jobs to ensure safety violations do not happen, and if they do, we address the situation immediately. It's better to bruise someone's ego with a disqualification (DQ), than to plug a bleeding hole.
Your secondary job is to ensure your stage runs smoothly and fairly. The competitors have all received the stage briefs in advance. As a stage RO, all you have to do is ask the competitors if they have any questions about the course of fire. Do not make any changes to stages without approval from the Match Director. Once the stage is over, get the team off the range. ROs score targets and provide scores to the team. It is crucial to get the next team on the range as fast as possible.
In the morning and late afternoon, lines of competitors will be waiting at each stage. During lunchtime hours, the majority of competitors will be in the field on the 5K orienteering course. This is a great time to take a restroom break, grab some lunch, and enjoy some beverages.
Post Match
1st, as quickly as possible when the ranges go cold at 1730, get your score sheets turned into the HQ.
It's not required, and we know that you will be exhausted at the end of the day, but please tear down your stage.
Throw away severely damaged cardboard targets.
Any stage equipment, target stands, specialty targets all get returned to the HQ storage shed. Just pile it up there, and we'll sort it out on Sunday.
Any excessively heavy stage equipment can be left in place.
With the help of all the volunteers, this normally takes just a few minutes. Once your area is returned to normal, make your way to the pavilion for some hot dinner and the prize raffle.
